Alisha Weir’s Horror Debut, A Review of Abigail

Alisha Weir is excellent in this new horror and comedy film! It’s somewhat based on Dracula’s Daughter but is not a direct retelling. The film is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who previously worked on Ready or Not.

The premise of the film is overall just cool and there’s a lot of great actors that appear in this. It’s fun, interesting, and full of surprises.

Plot

Put simply, a group of criminals kidnaps the daughter of a wealthy man hoping to get a lot of money off of the ransom. Well, it turns out that she is in fact a vampire, a ballerina vampire, and the criminals are actually the ones being kidnapped!

The film follows the group of criminals as they are trying to survive Abigail. They’re a group of misfits with disagreements with each other, but they try to find some semblance of teamwork so that they can try to make it through the night alive.

I like that despite the vast amounts of character we see, they’re all given depth and a backstory. Often, the storytelling happens quickly, but it’s done in an effective way so you get an accurate idea of the motivations of…
