Civil War by Alex Garland was an amazing movie, but a lot different than what I expected. It’s not so much about the causes and sides of the Civil War but more about the strength of a few individuals in the face of collapse and adversity.

Plot

In Civil War, a few secessionist factions are fighting against the United States government. There’s the Texas-California Alliance, otherwise known as the Western Forces, and the Florida Alliance. We do not get much info about why they’re fighting and for what reasons. Overall it seems that the United States is just in a state of chaos and various groups are caught up in it. There does seem to be some parallels with the president and Donald Trump, because it’s revealed to us that the president disbanded the FBI. This may be a reference to Trump’s dealings with the FBI in the real world. The president is also portrayed as an authoritarian that does air strikes on civilians, someone who would do anything to remain in power even if it costs the American people.
