Russia has reportedly developed a new kamikaze drone, the Vogan-9SP, designed to intercept and destroy Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian units have proven to be an effective tactic in the conflict, prompting Russia to innovate in their own drone defense technology.

The Russian Prototype Kamikaze Drone

The Vogan-9SP, an anti-drone drone, was unveiled at a trade fair for unmanned aerial vehicles in St. Petersburg, as reported by the Russian news agency TASS. This mini-drone is equipped with an explosive warhead, powered by four propellers, and can supposedly reach speeds of up to 250 km/h. It navigates using a combination of radar and laser technology. Upon detecting an enemy drone, the Vogan-9SP launches at a 45-degree angle into the air using a ground-based launch device.

The Vogan-9SP’s target acquisition is achieved partly through laser marking and partly through optical targeting. The exact details of this system’s functioning were not disclosed.
