Why I Will Take On My Wife’s Last Name

I don’t like my last name Kong, and I don’t like where is comes from either, my ancestor Confucious. The policy of Confucionism caused extreme suffering for millions of women and children across many generations.

Under Confucianism, women were not allowed to own property or participate in public affairs. The consequences of Confucionism remain in modern day China, where women and children often aren’t valued. I am the descendant of Confucious, so it’s my responsibility to ensure that this bloodline doesn’t continue.

I will accept a newer and better system, by taking on my future wife’s last name. By giving a woman a chance to change my last name, the whole system can be changed. I see a future where woman are valued, and not erased.
